GEC Central Library aims to serve the needs of faculty, students and other members of the library. The well- furnished library and is spread two floors, with a seating capacity for more than 150 students. The library provides a comprehensive collection of literature predominantly related to engineering and its allied subjects to meet the present and future information needs of it’s users. Complete catalogue of the library holdings has been created by using Koha, Integrated Library Management Software. Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC) is provided to the users

Services :

Orientation/User awareness programme
The librarian takes an active part in the orientation programme organized by the college for the benefit of new students in the beginning of academic year. They are taken around the library to familiarize them with various resources and services available for them.

The library catalogue lists the books, Standards, book bank books, CDs, DVDs and other media available in all the GEC Central library.

Circulation/Issue of Book and Membership details:

  • Circulation Section: - 10 am to 5 Pm.
  • Five books for a period of 15 days. In case of late return students have to pay an overdue charge of Rs. 2/- per day/book.
  • Once issued such books cannot be returned on the same day.
  • The borrower is fully responsible for the books & other library material borrowed from library.
  • Reserved books will not be reissued.

Membership Details:

Student members of Government Engineering College, Daman will be issued a RFID Smart card, which will remain in force for the duration of the study year and shall not be transferable.

Book Bank:

  • The Book Bank service available for the Reserve categories (ST, SC, OBC) students.

Facilities:

DELNET
  • objective is to promote resource sharing among the libraries through the development of a network of libraries.
  • It aims to collect, store, and disseminate information besides offering comput-erised services to users
  • To coordinate efforts for suitable collection development and also to reduce unnecessary duplication wherever possible.

Open access facility

The library has adopted the Open Access System where in users can browse through the collection directly from the shelves as a result of which they are aware of the library collection.

National Digital Library

Ministry of Human Resource Development under its National Mission on Education through Information and Communication Technology has initi-ated the National Digital Library (NDL) pilot project to develop a framework of virtual repository of learning resources with a single-window search facil-ity.

It is being arranged to provide support for all academic levels including research-ers and life-long learners, all disciplines, all popular form of access devices and differently-abled learners. It is being developed at IIT Kharagpur.

Self-renewal of books

Library allows users to ‘Self Renew’ borrowed books through WebOPAC (Student - 2 time per book) on or before due date.

Overdue books are not allowed for ‘Self Renewal’.

Online Reservation of books

  • Reservations can be made through WebOPAC on books that are not currently available in the library.
  • As soon as the reserved book returns, users will be intimated through an automatic email.
  • The book will be kept reserved for one day.
  • Books which have reservations are not allowed for ‘Self Renewal’.
